Japan's Hakuoh University Soldiers (2-0) dethroned the defending champions Ateneo Blue Eagles Men's Basketball Team (1-1), 73-58 in the knockout semifinals of the 2023 World University Basketball Series (WUBS) on Saturday, August 12 at the Yoyogi National Stadium in Tokyo, Japan. [VIDEO]
Hakuoh University, the champions of the All Japan Intercollegiate Basketball Championship in 2021 and the runner-up in 2022, has advanced to the finals to face Chinese Taipei's National Chengchi University (NCCU Griffins). NCCU escaped past the US NCAA Division I team, Radford University Highlanders, 79-75 in the other semifinal matchup.
The Ateneo Blue Eagles have been relegated to the bronze medal match against Radford University on Sunday, August 13 at 3:00pm (PHL time).
