Indonesia def. Gilas Pilipinas Men, 85-81 (GOLD Medal Game) May 22 | SEA Games 2021

Indonesia (6-0) dethroned Philippines (5-1), 85-81 in men's 5x5 basketball event at the 2021 Southeast Asian Games on Sunday at the Thanh Tri District Gymnasium in Vietnam.

Indonesia captures its country's first-ever gold in men's 5x5 basketball event while Gilas Pilipinas Men settles for silver for the first time since 1989.

Naturalized player Marques Bolden led Indonesia with a double-double performance of 18 points (6/13 FG, 1/4 3PT, 5/5 FT) along with 10 rebounds, 3 assists and 2 blocks in 32 minutes of play. Abraham Damar Grahita finished with 17 points (3/6 FG, 2/4 3PTS, 9/10 FT), 2 assists and 1 steal while 19-year-old 6'9" Derrick Michael Xzavierro with a solid game of 14 points, 7 rebounds and 2 blocks. Brandon Jawato scored 11 points including two 3-pointers with 2 assists and 2 steals.


Matthew Wright paced Gilas with 23 points (7/14 FG, 1/5 3PT, 8/8 FT), 4 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal while June Mar Fajardo finished with 20 points (6/9 FG, 8/11 FT), 9 rebounds and a steal. Thirdy Ravena added 17 points, 4 assists, 3 rebounds and 3 steals.

Gilas committed 14 turnovers (INA- 16to) in the contest, only shot 27/62 (43%) from the field including 3-of-16 shooting from downtown (INA - 26/55 fg, 13/31 3pts) and went 24-of-32 from the free throw line (INA - 20/25 ft). Indonesia had more assists (INA 21 / PHL 13) and blocks (PHL 1 / INA 4).
