World No. 30 and Asia’s No. 6 Gilas Pilipinas Women will begin its bid for an Asian Games podium finish against Asia’s No. 14 Kazakhstan on Thursday, September 17, at 3:00 p.m. PHT at Aichi International Arena (IG Arena) in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.
Gilas is in Pool B with Kazakhstan and will face Hong Kong on September 20 and Japan on September 22.
The Philippines will look to improve on its fifth-place finish at the 2023 Asian Games but will be without key players Vanessa de Jesus, Jack Animam, and Sophia Dignadice.
Kacey Dela Rosa will also miss the five-on-five tournament as she joins the women’s 3x3 squad, while Louna Ozar is competing in the FIBA 3x3 U23 World Cup in Wuhan, China.
The Gilas team will be reinforced by naturalized 6-foot Elizabeth Means, who will make her Gilas debut in five-on-five basketball. Means has already represented the country in 3x3 competition.
