World no.18 Montenegro used a balanced attack to defeat the no.40 Gilas Pilipinas Men, 102-87 in the pre-World Cup closed-door exhibition game on Sunday, August 20 at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig. [VIDEO]
Leading by only 2 at the half, Montenegro used a strong second half to break away for good. Chicago Bulls center Nikola Vucevic led Black Mountain with a near double-double of 18 points (7/10fg, 3/4 3pts, 1/1ft) to go along with 9 rebounds, 1 assist, and 2 blocks.
Jordan Clarkson led Gilas in a losing effort with a game-high 27 points on 8-of-15 shooting, including 2-of-4 from beyond the arc and a perfect 9-of-9 from the free-throw line along with 2 rebounds, 5 assists, 1 steal and game-high 8 turnovers in 29 minutes of play. June Mar Fajardo had a solid 16 minutes, scoring 19 points (6/8fg, 7/8ft), 3 rebounds, and 1 assist while Dwight Ramos added 13 points (4/8fg, 4/4ft), 2 rebounds, and 3 steals.
Gilas shot 49.1% from the field (28/57fg), including 5-of-15 shooting from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Montenegro had 40 out of 67 field goals and made 10 out of 24 attempts from three-point range. Gilas went 26 out of 29 from the free-throw line, while the Black Mountain made 12 out of 13 free throws. Montenegro committed 11 turnovers, while Gilas had 19 turnovers. Montenegro had more assists, 26-19, and also more steals, with 12 compared to Gilas' 5.
