Jordan Clarkson-less Gilas Pilipinas Men absorbed a loss in their final tune-up game against #31-ranked Mexico, with a score of 77-84 on Monday, August 21, in the pre-World Cup closed-door exhibition game at the PhilSports Arena in Pasig. [VIDEO]
Following their 87-102 loss to the Nikola Vucevic-led No.18 Montenegro and an 85-62 win against the #42 Cote d'Ivoire (Ivory Coast), the world no. 40 Gilas Pilipinas team experienced another setback in their tune-up game against fellow World Cup-bound team, Mexico.
Jordan Clarkson, Thirdy Ravena and Ray Parks are not included in the lineup for Gilas in their friendly match against Mexico.
Scottie Thompson led Gilas in a losing effort with 14 points on 6-of-11 shooting to go along with 6 rebounds, and game-high 5 assists in 23 minutes of play. RR pogoy had a solid performance of 9 points (4/7fg, 1/4 3pts), 1 rebound and 1 assist while Dwight Ramos added 9 points (3/9fg, 1/6 3pts, 2/4ft), 3 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks. Kai Sotto finished with 8 points (2/4fg, 1/1 3pts, 3/4ft), 2 rebounds, 1 steal and a block.
Gilas shot 45.2% from the field (28/62fg), including 7-of-23 shooting from beyond the arc. Meanwhile, Mexico had 31 out of 65 field goals and made 13 out of 24 attempts from three-point range. Gilas went 14 out of 19 from the free-throw line, while the 12 Guerreros made 9 out of 12 free throws. Both teams committed 13 turnovers.
