World No. 40 Gilas Pilipinas fell short of completing a comeback against the world #24 Finland on Wednesday, June 28, in a tune-up game at the Kalevi Sports Hall in Tallinn, Estonia.
Miro Little led Finland with 19 points on 8-of-15 shooting along with 5 rebounds, 3 assists and 4 steals while Jacob Grandison finished with a double-double of 18 points, 12 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block.
Dwight Ramos led Gilas in the losing effort with 15 points (6/11 fg, 1/6 3pts, 2/3 ft), along with 3 rebounds, 2 blocks, and a steal. Justin Brownlee contributed 11 points (3/6 fg, 1/1 3pts, 4/4 ft), 2 rebounds, 3 assists, and 2 blocks, while Scottie Thompson and June Mar Fajardo each added 10 points. Rhenz Abando had a solid performance, scoring 8 points (3/3 fg, 3/3 ft) and grabbing 1 rebound in 11 minutes of play.
Gilas made 30 out of 60 field goal attempts, including 5-of-14 shots from beyond the arc, and converted 20-of-26 free throws while Finland made 32-of-86 field goal attempts, with 13 successful three-pointers out of 42 attempts, and made 12-of-22 free throws. Additionally, Finland outrebounded Gilas by a margin of 55 to 37.
The Chot Reyes-mentored Gilas Pilipinas is currently on a three-week European training camp as it prepares for its upcoming campaign in the 2023 FIBA Basketball World Cup. The Philippines suffered back-to-back losses, falling to the Estonian team yesterday by a score of 71-81 and narrowly losing to Finland today by only 4 points.
