Gilas Pilipinas Men (1-1) suffered a 79-68 loss to hot-shooting hosts Cambodia (2-0), who have multiple naturalized players led by 6'8" Brandon Peterson, 6'5" Sayeed Alkabir Pridgett, 6'2" Darrin Dorsey, 6'8" Dwayne Morgan and 6'9" Darius Henderson to claim the top spot in Group A in the 2023 SEA Games men's basketball 5x5 event on Thursday, May 11 at the Morodok Techo National Stadium in Phnom Penh, Cambodia.
Darrin Dorsey finished with 22 points, along with 4 rebounds and 7 assists, to help Cambodia clinch a semifinals berth. Sayeed Alkabir Pridgett had 17 points and Cambodian-American 6'4" Oscar Lopez added 13 points.
Gilas shot 28/76 from the field, including 5-of-20 shooting from beyond the arc while Cambodia shot 30/76 from the field and made 12-of-36 threes. Cambodia outrebounded Gilas, 52-47.
Christian Standhardinger paced the Philippines in the losing effort with a double-double of 14 points, 11 rebounds and 4 assists while naturalized player Justin Brownlee scored 10 points (3/13fg, 1/5 3pts, 3/3ft) to go with 5 rebounds and a block in 23 minutes of play. As per Reuben Terrado of SPIN.ph, Brownlee gasped for air and battled cramps amid the sweltering heat inside the stadium.
