Japan B.League runner-up Ryukyu Golden Kings (1-0) blasts the PBA Philippine Cup 2022 champion San Miguel Beermen (0-1), 96-68 in the second day of the 2023 EASL Champions Week on Thursday, March 2 at the Brex Arena Utsunomiya in Utsunomiya, Tochigi, Japan. [Full EASL Schedule]
6'9" Ryukyu import Jack Cooley led the Golden Kings with a double-double of 20 points (7/11fg, 6/8ft) along with sixteen rebounds, two assists, one steal and one block. Keita Imamura with a solid game of 20 points on 6-of-11 shooting from the field including 4-of-9 from beyond the arc and perfect 4-of-4 from the line along with three rebounds and one assist.
Ryukyu's second import and former PBA import Allen Durham added 13 points to go with sixteen rebounds, six assists and a block while Asian import Carl Tamayo finished with 4 points (2/7fg, 0/3 3pts) and two rebounds in nine minutes of play.
SMB import Cameron Clark paced the Beermen in the losing effort with game-high 25 points (11/23fg, 3/3ft) with four rebounds and 2 assists while CJ Perez, the only local player to finish in double figures, finished with 12 points (4/14fg, 1/4 3pts, 3/3ft) to go with five rebounds, three assists, two steals and a block.
June Mar Fajardo suffered a left knee injury in the first quarter in just 21 seconds into the game in a collision with Ryukyu’s import Jack Cooley. Fajardo has been ruled out of the EASL Champions Week according to SMB head coach Jorge Gallent.
The Beermen will be back in action against Anyang KGC (1-0) of Korea on March 4 at 4:00pm [LIVE] while the TNT Tropang GIGA (0-1) will face the Seoul SK Knights (1-0) on March 3 at 400pm. [LIVE]
