PBA guest team Bay Area Dragons defeated the crowd favorite Barangay Ginebra, 99-82 to even the series at 1-1 in Game 2 of their best-of-7 finals in the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Wednesday, December 28 in front of 16,044 crowd at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Andrew Nicholson led the Dragons with a double-double of 30 points (11/21fg, 3/6 3pts, 5/6ft) along with game-high 15 rebounds, 1 assist, 1 steal and 2 blocks in 46 minutes of play. Songwei Zhu with a solid game of 24 points (8/15fg, 3/6 3pts, 6/7ft), to go with 5 rebounds, 6 assists and a steal. Hayden Blankley scored 17 points on 7-of-10 shooting with 7 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and game-high 5 blocks while Kobey Lam finished with 11 points, 4 rebounds and 1 assist.
Justin Brownlee paced the Gin Kings with game-high 32 points (12/28fg, 7/14 3pts, 1/3ft), 11 rebounds, 3 assists and a steal while Jamie Malonzo added 10 points, 6 rebounds, 3 assists, 1 steal and a block.
Bay Area shot 35/70 (50%) from the field, including 11-of-30 shooting from beyond the arc (GIN - 33/86 fg, 13/36 3pts), and Bay Area went 18-of-21 from the free throw line (GIN - 3/5ft). Gin Kings had 17 turnovers while the Dragons had 16. BAY recorded more blocks, 7-2, had more assists 23-20.
