Barangay Ginebra defeated the PBA guest team Bay Area Dragons, 96-81 in Game 1 of their best-of-7 finals series in the 2022-23 PBA Commissioner's Cup on Sunday, December 25, Christmas Day in front of 18,252 crowd at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Justin Brownlee led the Gin Kings with a double-double of 28 points (9/16fg, 2/6 3pts, 8/8ft) along with 13 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and a block. Veteran guard LA Tenorio finished with conference-high 22 points on 9-of-18 shooting including three 3-pointers to go with 2 rebounds, 3 assists and 3 steals while Christian Standhardinger with a solid game of 16 points (8/12fg), 10 rebounds, 4 assists and 2 steals. Scottie Thompson finished with another all-around performance of 14 points, 9 rebounds, 6 assists, 1 steal and 2 blocks.

Ginebra shot 38/76 (50%) from the field, including 7-of-22 shooting from beyond the arc (BAY - 30/78 fg, 13/42 3pts), and Ginebra went 13-of-19 from the free throw line (BAY - 8/16ft). Gin Kings had 23 turnovers while the Dragons had 16. GIN recorded more steals, 10-7, outrebounded the Bay Area 58-35 and had more assists, 21-20.
