Samoa def. Gilas Pilipinas Women, 88-73 (SEMIFINALS) 2022 FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship

Samoa women U16 national team defeated Gilas Pilipinas Youth U16 Women, 88-73 in the knockout semifinals of the 2022 FIBA U16 Women's Asian Championship (Division B) on Wednesday at the Prince Hamza Arena in Amman, Jordan.

Kira-May Filemu led Samoa with game-high 36 points on 15-of-28 shooting along with 15 rebounds, 4 assists and a steal in 40 minutes of play. Azaleeah Oloapu with another solid double-double game of 18 points, game-high 19 rebounds, 7 assists and 2 blocks in 36 minutes while Sienna Tutani with a huge triple-double of 11 points, 18 rebounds, 10 assists, 2 blocks and a steal in 34 minutes.

Samoa advances to the gold medal match against Syria while the Gilas Women relegated to the battle for third on June 30 at 8:45pm against Lebanon.

Naomi Natalie Panganiban paced Gilas with 15 points, Ava Camryn Fajardo with 14 points and Kristan Geyl Yumul added 13 points (3/15 3pts). Gilas shot 26/92 from the field including 9-of-41 shooting from downtown and went 12-of-17 from the free throw line while Samoa shot 32/71 fg, 5/18 3pts fg, 19/33 ft and Samoa out-rebounded PHL 72-39, Samoa had more assists 27-20 and blocks 4-3 while Gilas Women had more steals 22-4. Gilas Women U16 stays in Division B after semis exit while the winner FIBA U16 Women’s Asian Championship 2022 Division B will be promoted to Division A status.
