The all-PBA Gilas Pilipinas Men will continue its quest for back-to-back Asian Games men’s basketball gold medals as it plays the second game of its title defense against Kazakhstan at 6:00 p.m. PHL time (7:00 p.m. JPN time) on Saturday, September 12, at Aichi International Arena (IG Arena) in Nagoya, Aichi, Japan.

Matchup Preview:
Kazakhstan comes into the Asian Games matchup with several players who have recent FIBA competition experience during the FIBA Asia Cup 2029 Pre-Qualifiers last August. Kazakhstan went 3-1 in the pre-qualifiers, beating Maldives (114-43), Kyrgyzstan (88-67), and Sri Lanka (87-58) while losing to Palestine (67-80). The biggest matchup for Gilas should be 6-foot-9 center Vladimir Ivanov, who averaged a double-double of 11.3 points, 10.0 rebounds and 2.0 blocks over four games. In the backcourt, 6-foot-3 Rustam Murzagaliyev is Kazakhstan’s main veteran point guard, averaging 7.3 points, 2.3 rebounds and 4.3 assists.
6-foot-5 Anton Bykov is another player to watch, averaging 9.0 points and 4.8 rebounds while shooting 73.9% from the field.
