Strong Group Realty Philippines nearly blew a 20-point second-half lead before pulling out a 91-87 win over the United Arab Emirates (UAE) national basketball team in the opening game of the 2023 Dubai International Basketball Championship on Friday, January 27 (early Saturday morning, PHL time) at the Al-Nasr Club Hall in Dubai, UAE.

Import Shabazz Muhammad led the Strong Group with 24 points along with 7 rebounds, 4 assists and a block. Filipino-American Sedrick Barefield had a solid game of 23 points, 5 rebounds, 5 assists and a steal while Nick Young added 13 points in 17 minutes off the bench. Renaldo Balkman finished with a double-double of 12 points and 11 rebounds.
