University of the Philippines (UP) Fighting Maroons escapes past Ateneo de Manila University (AdMU) Blue Eagles, 72-66 in Game 1 of their best-of-3 Men's Basketball Finals in the 2022 UAAP Season 85 on Sunday, December 11 in front of 18,211 fans at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Zavier Lucero led UP with a double-double performance of 14 points (5/15fg, 1/5 3pts, 3/3ft) along with game-high 11 rebounds, 2 assists and 2 blocks in 33 minutes of play. JD Cagulangan with another solid game of 12 points, 8 rebounds, 5 assists and 2 steals while Harold Alarcon added 11 points, 4 rebounds, 2 assists and a steal. Malick Diouf with a near double-double of 9 points (4/6fg), 10 rebounds, 1 assist and 2 steals.
Finals Game 2 is on Wednesday, December 14 at the SMART Araneta Coliseum at 6:00pm.
