Crowd-favorite Barangay Ginebra defeated TNT Tropang GIGA, 102-90 to take Game 1 of their best-of-7 final series in the 2023 PBA Governors' Cup on Easter Sunday, April 9 in front of 11,580-crowd at the SMART Araneta Coliseum.
Justin Brownlee led the GinKings with a double-double output of 31 points on 11-of-20 shooting from the field including 6-of-11 from beyond the arc and 3-of-5 from the line along with twelve rebounds, four assists and two blocks. Scottie Thompson records his fifth career triple-double in the playoffs with 10 points, thirteen rebounds, eleven assists and a block.
Jamie Malonzo had another solid performance of 21 points (8/13fg, 3/6 3pts, 2/3ft) to go with eight rebounds, four assists and a steal while Christian Standhardinger added his own double-double of 16 points, eleven rebounds and two assists.
Ginebra shot 39/90 (43%) from the field, including 15-of-36 shooting from beyond the arc (TNT - 35/90 fg, 9/35 3pts), and Ginebra went 9-of-15 from the free throw line (TNT - 11/15ft). Gin Kings had 12 turnovers while the Tropang Giga had 9. Ginebra outrebounded TNT, 60-51 and the GinKings had more assists, 28-17.
