Magnolia Timplados Hotshots (1-3) uses strong second quarter to beat the Phoenix Super LPG (1-5), 108-95 and grab their first win in the 2023 PBA Governors' Cup on Friday, February 10 at the SM Mall of Asia Arena.
Antonio Hester, who recently played for the Zamboanga Valientes in the ABL, led the Hotshots with a double-double of 28 points (9/14fg, 1/1 3pts, 9/13ft) to go with twelve rebounds, six assists, four steals and one block in 42 minutes of play. Veteran guard Mark Barroca had a solid game of 19 points, three rebounds, four assists and two steals while Calvin Abueva with another all-around game of 18 points, ten rebounds and five assists.
Coach Chito Victolero on Hester: "It changed a lot of our movements, especially 'yung offensive schemes namin because without Ian, we don't have any post threat. That's why we got this guy, to open up the floor, give our guards the chance to get their clear shots. Good thing, three days of practices with us 'yung defensive scheme and offensive scheme namin nagawa niya kaagad."
