Gilas Pilipinas Men lost to world #60 Egypt, 73-60 in the opening game of the 2021 King Abdullah Cup on Monday at Prince Hamzah Hall in Amman Jordan.

Amro Mohammad Abd Alhalem topscored for Egypt with 14 points (6/11 fg, 2/3 3pts) 5 assists, 4 rebounds and 1 steal while Omar Saeed Arabei added 11 points (5/8 fg) and 4 rebounds.

The Philippines committed 15 turnovers in the contest, only shot 23/64 (35%) from the field including a miserable 4-of-27 shooting from downtown and went 10-of-29 from the free throw line. Naturalized big man Angelo Kouame finished with a double-double performance of 13 points (6/12 fg, 1/6 ft), 11 rebounds, 1 assist and a block while Isaac Go added 13 points (4/7 fg, 2/4 3pts) 2 rebounds and 1 assist. Thirdy Ravena scored 8 points (3/7 fg, 2/7 ft), eight rebounds and one assist in 20 minutes of play.

Gilas will try to bounce back tomorrow (July 27) when they take on Saudi Arabia at 6:00pm.
